Stuck in a Beautiful Anchorage

Yesterday evening we motor-sailed down the Lough to anchor overnight in Audley's Roads.  All the way, I was taunted by the smell of fresh bread and our supper stew, which was not allowed to be eaten until we arrived (Random Rosie Rule).  It was all the better for the wait, with a cool glass of wine.  Cool is no problem, around here, although the weather today has been warmer.

We enjoyed a sparking anchorage with the sun setting behind Audley Castle.  Then to bed early, ready for an 05:30 start, to catch the first of the tide.

Sunset at Audley's Roads
Today however, we are still at anchor; in fog!  Mariners hate fog.  It is clammy, wet and dangerous because all visibility disappears and eerie sounds come from seemingly random directions.  Some of those sounds are the engines of nasty big steel ships and others are the breaking of waves on jagged rocks.  The local rowing club know where they are but we visitors intend to wait for better visibility before taking on Strangford Narrows.

Ironically, the fog is here because of the warmer wind that we have been hoping for (carrying moisture) meeting the cold sea (advection fog).  Now we need the sea to warm up too!  Some folk are never satisfied.
