As we were having breakfast alongside in Kyle of Lochalsh, a large ship carrying 12 wind turbine blades berthed at the dock next to us.

This was interesting (to us ship spotters)! A quick check on Google showed us that the ship was bringing in part of the set of wind turbines destined for installation at SSE's (Scottish and Southern Energy) 32 turbine Bhalraidh Wind Farm, near Inverness.
Two large cranes were waiting at the dockside to transfer each huge blade onto a truck that would take it across the Skye bridge to a temporary resting point at Skye Airfield. In about two weeks time the blades will all be moved to the wind farm when they are ready to install them. The blades only just cleared the tops of traffic lights (that had been specially shortened for this day) as the trucks negotiated the road junction out of Kyle of Lochalsh. All traffic was halted and Police cars ensured the way was clear.

We went for a walk across the lovely Skye Bridge later in the day to visit Kyleakin town on the opposite bank and were treated to some amazing views along the way.
